Strategy and Operating Model

Helping IT leaders define their IT strategy and operating model to support future business

In our ‘Digital’ world new business challenges are now seen daily. This is driven by software development, app-culture and new hardware that continuously drives customer and consumer expectations. New funding models that decrease time to market, business insight driven by big data analysis, increasing global competition, changing regulatory markets and decreasing traditional customer loyalty are some of many challenges.

For the modern CIO and IT leader, these changes present both opportunities and challenges. As technology plays an increasingly important role in the business, CIOs and IT leaders have the opportunity to deliver more business value than ever. Successful CIOs are those that recognise and adapt to these evolving challenges and offer flexibility, agility and answers to support rapidly evolving business needs. Often, this means that business customers look to more than one IT organisation for support, making use of outsourced services for IT operations, IT project delivery, IT advisory or a mix of these and more.

The challenge is making sure that the IT organisation/s that are supporting the business are working together, providing the IT right support and the informed advice that the customer needs at the right time and at the right cost.

In our technology-driven world it is more critical than ever that IT delivers on its commitment to ensure that customers (the organisation) meet their objectives and that IT measurably delivers the value expected.

Strategy Development and Alignment
Develop business led IT / Digital strategies, thought leadership in IT strategies, IT transformational planning and roadmaps. This includes clear documentation of business demand (including business capabilities where needed), governance, identification of service and technology drivers and roadmap development. It can also include horizon scanning, innovation management and market review as needed.

IT Maturity
Assess the current IT organisation based on existing and recognised standards such as COBIT, ITIL and TOGAF. This is often the first step of strategy planning to document the as-is position and enable progress to be measured.

IT Operating Model
Optimise delivery model for the provision of IT services to the business, organisation maturity assessment and design, technology centre of excellence and shared service centre development.

Coeus has experience of both designing and implementing IT operating models, organisational structures and new ways of working, including multi-speed IT operations, DevOps and Agile methodologies.

IT Organisation Design
Develop an IT organisation based on meeting the identified strategic demands, making best use of existing staff knowledge and skills. This can include role definitions, skills assessments, mixed team working (with 3rd parties or internally) and basic performance management.

IT Value Management
Identify and develop opportunities to improve the actual and perceived value of IT. This can include communications support, development of outsourcing plans and business cases, supporting business engagement, creating a view on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and moving to a service-based delivery model.
